Robert Soning, COO of Londonewcastle has a passion for contemporary and street art. As an avid collector, he and business partner David Barnett, CEO, were interested in extending this interest into the properties they develop throughout London. Not simply to press their ideas or tastes on others, but to add unique touches to the new home owning experience.
The pair realised early on that their customers were seeing art in public and entertainment spaces in London – notably restaurants and clubs. So it seemed natural that art should extend out of these spaces and into shared space in developments; such as reception areas, lifts, club and private dining rooms, external terraces and gardens. There was in effect a natural affinity between Londonewcastle and their customers for displaying art in the developments.
The establishment of the Londonewcastle Art Programme which includes a Street Art Programme, the Londonewcastle Project Space in Shoreditch – now regarded as one of the foremost venues in the area; and formerly the Londonewcastle Depot in the City Road Basin; has embed the business in the London Art World as a supporter and platform for new and established creative talent.
