That rather pernickity client wants to go for luncheon, get suited-up and have a night out; where to recommend? There’s an awful lot of choice in London… Luckily, Nota Bene founder Anthony Lassman has made it his life’s work to know just where; here he picks out the topper-most notch places to impress your property clients in the capital and beyond.
Best for tailoring is Richard James Bespoke; I love their signature cut. But, as with everything Nota Bene does, it has to be contextualised. So, taller people seeking more quintessentially British top-of-the market tailoring would be sent to Anderson and Sheppard, while those in the music and film world – with slim physiques – would love the Rat Pack look done so well by Spencer Hart.
For lunch or dinner, we love the vibe and style of private club 5 Hertford Street. Get friendly with Anthony and he might invite you there as membership is strict. But it is unquestionably the place to impress right now with a choice of dining rooms, the one for the young and young-at-heart being LouLou’s; a club-within-club and a great place to party after dinner.

For weekend lunch or warm summer evenings it has to be The River Cafe, our favourite restaurant in London. Perfect rustic Italian food of the highest quality, a good choice of regional Italian wines, terrific team ( it helps knowing the managers, especially the delightful Bassam) and, when the sun shines, nowhere more enjoyable than outside in the garden bordering the towpath, with River Thames out front.
Midweek power lunches – also membership only- remains with Harry’s Bar and, for those not able to get in (and a little less in terms of power) we rateThe Ledbury, especially if one is house- hunting in Notting Hill or Holland Park . Otherwise, the casual simplicity of Olivomare for seafood or sister restaurant Olivocarne for meat, both of which are at the heart of Belgravia and very popular with the “locals in the know”.
Best to stay is The Apartment at The Connaught, perched up on the top floor of our favourite London hotel with views over Carlos Place and Mount Street. It has the feel, as its name implies, of a beautiful classic-meets-contemporary Mayfair apartment, with a choice of one or two bedrooms, a terrace and vaulted living room. Its perfect.

Best for massage has to be the spa at KX which is a members club but Nota Bene can arrange a visitor’s membership and access for wellbeing. They have a great range of treatments on offer.
And, when one has had enough of the city, take a helicopter from Battersea Heliport to Devon for the superb Gidleigh Park hotel and its outstandingly good restaurant. This is a country house hotel of the finest quality and the gardens and scenery are magnificent.
